Who Qualifies for the SBA 8(a) Program?

To be eligible, your business must:

  • Be 51% owned and controlled by U.S. citizens who are socially and economically disadvantaged

  • Be a small business according to SBA size standards (NAICS-based)

  • Have a personal net worth under $850,000 and total assets under $6.5M

  • Be in operation for at least two years (exceptions may apply)

  • Show good character and potential for success

How to Apply for 8(a) Certification

Prepare Documentation

Business tax returns, financials, proof of ownership, resumes, and personal financial statements

Apply Online

Submit your application through the SBA Certify platform

SBA Review

The SBA will evaluate your eligibility and may request additional information

Approval

If approved, your business will be certified for up to 9 years, with access to federal contracts and training
