Maryland Construction Firm License Overview
In Maryland, there isn’t a single statewide "Construction Firm License" like in some other states. Instead, the type of construction work you do — and where you do it — determines what kind of licenses or registrations your firm needs.
Here’s how it works:

Commercial General Contractors
No separate state license for purely commercial construction at the state level in Maryland.
However, your firm must be registered properly (LLC, Corporation, etc.) with:
-
Maryland Department of Assessments and Taxation (SDAT)
-
Local County Licenses: Some counties and cities (like Montgomery County, Baltimore City, Prince George’s County) require a local construction or building license for commercial projects.
-
