Commercial General Contractors

No separate state license for purely commercial construction at the state level in Maryland.

However, your firm must be registered properly (LLC, Corporation, etc.) with:

  • Maryland Department of Assessments and Taxation (SDAT)

  • Local County Licenses: Some counties and cities (like Montgomery County, Baltimore City, Prince George’s County) require a local construction or building license for commercial projects.

  • You still must pull permits, and for certain types of work (electrical, HVAC, plumbing), you must hire Maryland-licensed subcontractors.
